Sonam Kapoor is an Indian actress and a daughter of famous bollywood actor Anil Kapoor. She was shot into fame after she signed her first film for a lead role with great Indian director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She is a granddaughter of filmmaker Surinder Kapoor. She has two siblings, one sister Rhea and brother Harshvardhan. She is the eldest of all. Sonam did her schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir School, Juhu, Mumbai. She then enrolled in the United World College Of South East Asia to do her International Baccalaureate. After that she went to Singapore for two years studying theatre there. She is fluent in English, Hindi, and Punjabi. She has received training in classical Indian and Latin dance forms. She was exposed to Film atmosphere very early in her life as her father and uncles were deeply involved in the Hindi film industry. She grew up with a passion to become an actress in her own right one day. Her upcoming movie is I Hate Luv Storys releasing in 2010.

Before starting her career as actress she she started as an assistant to Sanjay leela Bhanshali. She assisted him during the making of Black(2005). Bhansali itself took the credit to launch Sonam kapoor opposite star son Ranbeer Kapoor in Saawariya (2007). Though the movie was not successful at the box office but her performance receive good reviews by most of the critics. After Saawariya Sonam did Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Delhi 6' opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Again film was not a big hit at box office but her performance was praised. She's a firecracker performer, instinctive and uninhibited in what isn't even a conventional female lead. Though none of her release did good business at box office but still she has three movies, with renowned directors, in her kitty. She has signed David Dhawan's comedy film 'Come On Pappu' opposite Akshay Kumar. She is currently shooting for 'Aisha' with Abhay Deol and will soon start shooting for Karan Johar's 'I Hate Luv Stories'. These are the early days for this actress whose looks are compared Madhubala and Wahida Rehman. She will have ample opportunities to prove herself in the years to come.
