While pursuing his cricket career Suresh Raina joined the specialist government Sports College in Lucknow which holds the glory of producing Mohammad Kaif
The left handed Indian batsman was born at Muradnagar, Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. He was the youngest in a family of five children and has a nick name Sanu. Raina was fond of cricket from childhood. He considered cricket seriously in 1999 and moved from his home town of Ghaziabad to Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. He was selected captain of Uttar pradesh under 16 cricket team. In 2002, he found place in Under 19 cricket team for tour to England. He made a couple of half centuries in that series. He also went on tour of Srilanka with under 17 team same year. He made Ranji Trophy debut at tender age of sixteen in 2003; He played for his home state against Assam. He also went on tour of Pakistan for the U-19 Asian ODI championship. Suresh Raina became a member of Indian cricket team for ODIs in July 2005 and was also nominated in test squad in early 2006. He played his first ODI against Sri Lanka on 30th July 2005 at Dambulla in Sri Lanka. Raina also played in five of the matches against Sri Lanka in India in 2005 and made a cameo 39 not out to lead India to victory in the fourth one day on 3rd Nov 2005. He also batted in a single match when Indian team was on tour of Pakistan in 2006. He earned his first man of match at Faridabad when he hit 81 runs against England without being out and lead India to victory. On 25 June 2008, he scored his first century in only 66 balls against Hong Kong during Asia Cup. This was the second Indian fastest century at that time. His 84 out of 69 balls aganist Pakistan and 116 out of 107 against Bangladesh led him to become man of the match for three successive times. In IPL matches, Raina played for Chennai Super Kings in 2008 and 2009. He also did bowling in IPL matches and he proved to be a better bowler having fifth best economy rate.
