Finding an adverse atmosphere for himself in the committee reviewing the proposed amendment in copyright laws, Aamir Khan decided to resign from the committee. He fell in an acrimonious argument with Javed Akhtar. Apparently Aamir thinks that since everyone in the committee seems to have a problem with his suggestions, he should not be a part of the process. According to a source, “The committee was established on January 4 after a meeting with Kapil Sibal”. The committee included Boney Kapoor, Javed Akhtar, Bhushan Kumar, Vishal Bhardwaj, Madhu Mantena, Mukesh Bhatt and Prasoon Joshi. Aamir was the only actor in it. It is well known that when Aamir gets into something, he gets completely involved, just like he did during the multiplex versus producers dispute. However, this time he felt that all his inputs were a waste because some people weren’t happy with his efforts on the issue. He also felt that people were just targeting him despite the fact that he had nothing to achieve out of the matter. So after he read some reports in the media, he just decided to keep himself away from the controversial issue. He sent his resignation letter to HRD minister Kapil Sibal. In his letter to Sibal, Aamir mentioned that though he felt he had a lot to contribute, he cannot make any meaningful contribution in this atmosphere. Aamir writes “Aggression of this type leaves me feeling very disillusioned and sad and I am unable to function.” In his letter, Aamir applauded the move to amend the copyright law. He told Sibal that amendments to the copyright act are long overdue. He expressed confidence in Sibal and wrote that as he brought progressive and positive changes in the sphere of education, he can brought same kind of changes in the field of copyright also.
