On Wednesday, 20th January, Google Inc.'s You Tube said that it is planning to launch a movie rental service. You Tube wrote in its blog that the video sharing site is partnering with Sundance Film festival to release five movies and site users will be able to rent these movies from You Tube on Friday until Jan 31. You Tube has chosen these five movies from 2009 and 2010 Sundance Film festivals. These movies are "Bass Ackwards," "The Cove," "One Too Many Mornings," "Homewrecker" and "Children of Invention." While the company is looking for additional independent filmmakers, it will offer another selection of videos in the coming weeks. GOOG Fortune 500, You Tube is also inviting its partners to participate in the new rental service. The company welcomed any effort that could bring more content to it in its blog. Company said in its blog that its partners will get unprecedented control over the distribution of their work after they make their content available for rent. An analyst Allen Weiner, working at IT research firm Gartner in Scottsdale said in a blog that You Tube decided to launch a film rental service in a natural progression. Weiner guesses that in coming time You Tube may distribute rentals to mobile platforms and OTT TV platforms including Apple TV, Boxee, Wii and PS3.
