Maoists have become tech- savvy as they have devised ways to clone the most sophisticated weapons inducing the AK series. Earlier, they looted weapons from the armories to fulfill their needs, but this sudden development has put the security agencies under massive strain. This startling activity of the Maoists came to light when an arms manufacturing unit in forests close to Gobardaha village in Chatra district in Jharkhand was busted by a CRPF team. This operation was handed over to the CRPF's 190th Battalion which comprised of 100 personnel who managed to seize AK-47 and AK-57 rifles which were equally of high quality as compared to the original ones. Apart from it, 59 various kinds of instruments that went into the making of the cloning of the rifles and several kinds of pistols were also recovered. One Maoist was arrested while others fled leaving behind the tools and instruments used to manufacture and assemble the rifles and different kinds of pistols. After the initial examination of the various weapons seized, it was clear that their quality was equivalent to that of the original.
