Former Jharkhand CM arrested

After remaining under the scanner for two months, Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda was finally arrested by the state Vigilance Commission on Monday. Inspector General of Police, Vigilance, M V Rao said that they have reached at a stage when his arrest was necessary. Arrest warrant from the competent court has also been taken in this regard. A case had been registered against Koda for his four thousand crore money laundering scam and was taken into custody on the instructions of Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the prevention of the Money Laundering Act. Koda was arrested at the Chaibasa district of Kharkhand, which is 200km from Ranchi and is being brought to the capital by the Police. Koda had been refraining from interrogation and arrest in the past. Earlier he had stated that he would be available for questioning only post the Jharkhand assembly polls that are scheduled for December 18. Koda had said that the summons by the ED were delivered at his Ranchi residence only on November 18, a day before the appearance when he was busy campaigning for assembly polls in Chaibasa. Frequent IT raids at his residence showed evidences of hawla transactions and illegal investments running into more than Rs 2,000 crore. It was also brought to light the UP government handed over Rs 540 crore in a span of 60 days between between August and October 2009 to Koda
